Aharonov–Bohm Flux Phase
Shift quantum interference using magnetic flux confined away from the particle paths.
Free theory articleShift quantum interference using magnetic flux confined away from the particle paths.
Concept & interpretation
The Aharonov–Bohm effect demonstrates that the electromagnetic vector potential can affect the quantum phase of a charged particle, even in regions where the magnetic field is strictly zero.
Experiment
Use the Aharonov–Bohm Flux Phase module to interactively explore the quantum interference shift.
- Set the Flux quanta control to exactly 0.5.
- Observe that the Relative phase radians becomes approximately 3.14159 (π).
- Verify that the Normalized output intensity drops to 0, demonstrating completely destructive interference.
- Change the Visibility control to 0, which removes the interference effect, resulting in an intensity of 0.5 regardless of the flux.
